Located in Paithani village in Pauri, Uttarakhand, the Rahu Temple is traditionally regarded as a unique temple dedicated to Rahu, where devotees come throughout the year to worship Rahu along with Lord Shiva. Devotees traditionally offer Moong Khichdi to Rahu as Prasad.
According to local tradition, Adi Shankaracharya is believed to have established the temple. It is said that when he visited this region, he became aware of Rahu’s influence in the Paithani area and subsequently initiated the establishment of the Rahu Temple here.
According to the Kedarkhand of the Skanda Purana, Rahu performed intense penance to Lord Shiva near the confluence of the Rath Vahini and Navalika rivers, at the foothills of the Rashtrakuta mountains. The region is described as Rath Kshetra, traditionally associated with the Rashtrakuta mountain.
