The Chaturdashi Tithi of Pitru Paksha is considered especially significant for remembering departed ancestors whose death occurred under unusual circumstances such as accidents, violence, untimely death, suicide, war or other unnatural causes.
According to religious tradition, such departed ancestors are remembered with devotion on this Tithi, and Shraddh, Tarpan and other Pitru rituals are performed in their honour. The spiritual intent of this sacred day is to pray for the peace, satisfaction and Sadgati of their souls.
