The nine holy days of Navratri are considered a highly powerful and spiritually significant time for worshipping Adishakti. During these nine days, devotees worship the nine forms of Maa Durga and pray to remove negative energy, fear, obstacles, and misfortune from their lives. According to scriptures, chanting, penance, charity, and chadhava performed during Navratri are considered many times more fruitful than on normal days, because this period is believed to be the awakening of divine Shakti. The 9-day Adishakti chadhava is a symbol of complete surrender at the feet of the Goddess. It is offered with the intention of opening the doors of happiness, prosperity, protection, inner strength, and fulfillment of wishes in the devotee’s life.
When this chadhava is offered at a powerful Shakti Peeth like Guhyeshwari Devi Temple in Nepal, its spiritual effectiveness is believed to increase even more. This temple is considered a highly awakened center of Tantric practices and Shakti worship, where the deep and divine power of the Goddess is said to reside. It is believed that a chadhava offered here during Navratri can bring rapid positive changes in life — whether it is removal of obstacles, protection from enemies, or establishment of peace and harmony in the family. The divine energy of this sacred place combined with the auspicious time of Navratri makes the chadhava extremely powerful and fruitful.
Located on the banks of the Bagmati River in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, Guhyeshwari Shakti Peeth is one of the 51 sacred Shakti Peeths in Hinduism and is considered a very holy and mysterious place. According to religious beliefs, the “guhya” part of Mata Sati’s body fell here.
The most unique feature of this temple is that there is no idol of the Goddess. Instead, there is a small hole in the center of a flat surface that is worshipped in the form of a sacred Kalash. Water continuously flows from this hole and is considered extremely holy. Here, the Goddess is worshipped in the form of Mahamaya and Bhairav in the form of Kapal.
This temple is located very close to the famous Pashupatinath Temple and spiritually both are deeply connected. It is believed that the darshan of Pashupatinath (Shiva) is not considered complete until devotees also take darshan of Guhyeshwari (Shakti). This temple is world-famous for Tantric practices, and especially during Navratri, a large number of devotees visit here. Sacred texts like Kali Tantra, Chandi Tantra, and Shiva Tantra Rahasya mention this temple as one of the most important places for attaining Tantric power.
