Kalighat Temple, located in Kolkata, West Bengal, is one of the 51 Shaktipeeths in Hinduism. This temple is dedicated to Goddess Kali, who is considered the Goddess of power, energy, and destruction. According to mythology, the toe of Goddess Sati’s right foot fell here when Lord Shiva was carrying her body during Tandava. In this temple, the fierce form of Goddess Kali is established. In this idol, Maa Kali is seen placing her foot on Lord Shiva’s chest, wearing a garland of skulls, holding weapons and severed heads, with more skulls tied around her waist. Her tongue is extended outward, and drops of blood are shown falling from it. Notably, the tongue of the idol is made of gold.
