Located on the banks of the Bagmati River in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, Guhyeshwari Shaktipeeth is one of the 51 sacred Shaktipeeths of Hinduism and is considered a very holy and mystical place. According to religious beliefs, the “guhya” part of Mata Sati’s body fell here. The most unique feature of this temple is that there is no idol of the Goddess. Instead, there is a small hole in the middle of a flat surface, worshipped in the form of a kalash. Water flows continuously from this hole, which is considered extremely sacred. The Shakti here is worshipped as “Mahamaya” and the Bhairav as “Kapal.”
