Every Tithi of Pitru Paksha is considered significant for remembering one’s ancestors and performing Shraddh and Tarpan in their honour. This special occasion brings together two Tithis, creating an opportunity to perform Puja and Tarpan for departed ancestors.
On this occasion, ancestors will be remembered with devotion and special prayers will be offered for their satisfaction, spiritual peace and Sadgati.

Located amidst the Himalayas in the Mustang region of Nepal at an altitude of approximately 3,800 metres, Muktinath Temple is a sacred pilgrimage site dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It is known as the Mukti Kshetra because Lord Vishnu is believed to grant liberation from sins, worldly attachments, and the cycle of birth and death. The Shaligram stones found in the Kali Gandaki River are revered in the Vaishnava tradition as manifestations of Lord Vishnu. The 108 sacred water spouts located near the temple are regarded as symbols of spiritual purification, cleansing, and surrender. Revered in both Hindu and Buddhist traditions, Muktinath is an ancient and unique spiritual pilgrimage site.
The significance of Muktinath becomes even greater during Pitru Paksha. Lord Vishnu is associated with liberation and the attainment of a higher spiritual state, while the purpose of Pitru rituals is to pray for the satisfaction, peace, and well-being of one’s ancestors. Therefore, performing Til Tarpan, Deep Daan, and Pitru Shanti Puja at Muktinath becomes a special opportunity to pray for relief from Pitru Dosha, peace for ancestors, and ancestral blessings.
During the sacred confluence of two Tithis in Pitru Paksha, ancestors will be remembered with devotion and prayers will be offered for their satisfaction and spiritual peace.
Special Pitru remembrance and Tarpan will be performed for family members who passed away unmarried, with prayers for their satisfaction and Sadgati.
Through Pitru Dosha Nivaran Mahapuja and Til Tarpan, prayers will be offered for the pacification of adverse influences traditionally associated with Pitru Dosha.
At the sacred Mukti Kshetra of Muktinath, Lord Vishnu will be worshipped along with Tarpan and Deepdaan, with prayers for the higher spiritual journey and Moksha of departed ancestors.
