🙏 What is the Significance of Pitru Paksha and the Commencement of Shraddha?
In Sanatan tradition, Pitru Paksha is considered a sacred period dedicated to remembering departed ancestors and performing Shraddha, Tarpan and Pind Daan in their honour. The very meaning of “Shraddha” is to perform sacred rituals for one’s ancestors with faith and devotion. Therefore, remembering the Pitras and taking a Sankalp for them at the commencement of Shraddha is considered a special way of fulfilling one’s responsibilities towards Pitru Rin.
It is believed that offerings of water, sesame seeds and food made with devotion during this period serve as a medium to pray for the satisfaction and Sadgati of departed ancestors. With the blessings of satisfied Pitras, devotees pray for peace, stability and well-being within the family.

It is traditionally believed that those who leave their mortal body in Kashi attain Moksha, which is why the sacred city has long held a unique place in Sanatan tradition.
Located in Kashi, Pishach Mochan Kund is especially renowned for rituals associated with Pitru Dosha Shanti. References to the Kund are traditionally associated with the Garuda Purana and Kashi Khand, where Pind Daan, Tarpan and Pitru Dosha Nivaran rituals at this sacred site are linked with prayers for the fulfilment of unresolved ancestral wishes, peace and liberation.
Pishach Mochan Kund is believed to be an ancient sacred site that existed even before the descent of the Ganga. According to a traditional legend, a Brahmin became a Pishach due to his past deeds. Under the guidance of Maharishi Valmiki, he worshipped Kapardeshwar Mahadev and bathed in this Kund to attain liberation. Since then, the sacred site has been known as Pishach Mochan Kund.
