🙏 What is the Significance of Pitru Paksha and the Commencement of Shraddha?
In Sanatan tradition, Pitru Paksha is considered a sacred period dedicated to remembering departed ancestors and performing Shraddha, Tarpan and Pind Daan in their honour. The very meaning of “Shraddha” is to perform sacred rituals for one’s ancestors with faith and devotion. Therefore, remembering the Pitras and taking a Sankalp for them at the commencement of Shraddha is considered a special way of fulfilling one’s responsibilities towards Pitru Rin.
It is believed that offerings of water, sesame seeds and food made with devotion during this period serve as a medium to pray for the satisfaction and Sadgati of departed ancestors. With the blessings of satisfied Pitras, devotees pray for peace, stability and well-being within the family.
🌊 Why are Pitru Rituals at Kashi and Pishach Mochan Kund Considered Special?
Kashi is revered as Lord Shiva’s sacred city of Moksha. Pishach Mochan Kund, located in Kashi, is considered one of the prominent sacred sites associated with Pitru Shanti, Tarpan and Dosha Nivaran.
According to religious beliefs, Tarpan and other Pitru rituals performed here with devotion hold special significance for prayers for ancestral satisfaction, peace from incomplete ancestral rites and Sadgati. For this reason, performing these rituals at Pishach Mochan Kund during Pitru Paksha and the commencement of Shraddha is considered especially auspicious.
🔥 What is the Significance of Pitru Dosha Shanti Havan & Tarpan?
During Pitru Dosha Shanti Havan, special offerings are made into the sacred fire with Vedic mantras. Agni is traditionally regarded as a sacred medium through which prayers and offerings are conveyed to the divine and the Pitras. Tarpan means offering water with devotion while praying for the satisfaction of one’s ancestors. During Pitru Paksha, Tarpan performed with water and sesame seeds is considered one of the principal rituals dedicated to the Pitras.
🕉️ What Will Happen in This Special Ritual?
At the commencement of Shraddha during Pitru Paksha, a Sankalp will be taken in your name and Gotra at Pishach Mochan Kund, Kashi, followed by Pitru Dosha Shanti Havan and Tarpan. Special offerings will be made into the sacred fire with Vedic mantras during the Pitru Shanti Havan. Thereafter, Tarpan with water and sesame seeds will be performed at Pishach Mochan Kund, with prayers for the satisfaction and Sadgati of departed ancestors, relief from Pitru Dosha and family obstacles, and the blessings of the Pitras.
Kashi, revered as the city of Moksha, is considered one of the foremost pilgrimage destinations for Pitru Shanti and liberation. It is traditionally believed that those who leave their mortal body in Kashi attain Moksha, which is why the sacred city has long held a unique place in Sanatan tradition.
Located in Kashi, Pishach Mochan Kund is especially renowned for rituals associated with Pitru Dosha Shanti. References to the Kund are traditionally associated with the Garuda Purana and Kashi Khand, where Pind Daan, Tarpan and Pitru Dosha Nivaran rituals at this sacred site are linked with prayers for the fulfilment of unresolved ancestral wishes, peace and liberation.
Pishach Mochan Kund is believed to be an ancient sacred site that existed even before the descent of the Ganga. According to a traditional legend, a Brahmin became a Pishach due to his past deeds. Under the guidance of Maharishi Valmiki, he worshipped Kapardeshwar Mahadev and bathed in this Kund to attain liberation. Since then, the sacred site has been known as Pishach Mochan Kund.
Through Pitru Dosha Shanti Havan and Tarpan, prayers will be offered for relief from the adverse effects associated with Pitru Dosha.
Through Tarpan at Pishach Mochan Kund, prayers will be offered for the peace, satisfaction and Sadgati of departed ancestors.
With the blessings of the Pitras, special prayers will be offered for relief from long-standing family tensions, disagreements and disturbances.
Through Havan and Pitru Karma, prayers will be offered for relief from recurring obstacles and difficulties affecting the family.
Through this sacred ritual, prayers will be offered for family prosperity, the well-being of future generations, and the grace and protection of the Pitras.
