🏹 Why is Khatu Shyam Ji Known as ‘Hare Ka Sahara’?
According to religious traditions, Khatu Shyam Ji is identified with Barbarik, the legendary warrior of the Mahabharata, who was the grandson of Bhima and the son of Ghatotkacha. Barbarik had taken a vow to always support the losing side in battle.
Before the Mahabharata war, Lord Shri Krishna asked Barbarik to offer his head as a donation. Without hesitation, Barbarik surrendered his head as an act of extraordinary sacrifice and devotion. Pleased with his selfless sacrifice, Lord Krishna blessed him with the boon that he would be worshipped in Kaliyuga by Krishna’s own name, ‘Shyam’.
Because of this sacred legend and the unwavering faith of devotees, Baba Shyam is lovingly known as ‘Hare Ka Sahara’—the Support of Those Who Have Lost Hope. It is believed that remembering Baba Shyam during difficult times brings renewed hope, courage and emotional strength.
