The legend of Yogini Ekadashi describes how Lord Vishnu’s grace relieved Hemamali from leprosy and the effects of a curse. Therefore, this sacred ritual is considered especially auspicious for praying for relief from physical illnesses and suffering.
Through the chanting of the Vishnu Dwadashakshari Mantra, devotees seek Lord Vishnu’s divine grace, protection, stability, and auspiciousness in every aspect of life.
According to the scriptures, chanting Lord Vishnu’s sacred mantra and listening to the Ekadashi Vrat Katha help purify the soul, reduce the effects of negative karmas, and bring immense spiritual merit.
Special prayers are offered for the health, happiness, prosperity, and overall welfare of the devotee and their family. Lord Vishnu’s blessings are believed to bring harmony, peace, and abundance into the household.
Yogini Ekadashi is regarded as a sacred opportunity to receive Lord Vishnu’s grace and progress on the path of Dharma, devotion, and liberation. Performing this ritual with faith is believed to support spiritual evolution and ultimately lead the devotee toward Moksha.
In Sanatan Dharma, Ekadashi is regarded as one of the most sacred and spiritually rewarding days dedicated to the worship of Lord Vishnu. Among all Ekadashis, Yogini Ekadashi holds special significance. According to the Padma Purana, observing this Ekadashi with sincere devotion is believed to bestow immense spiritual merit while helping devotees seek relief from physical suffering, reduce the effects of past sins, and attain spiritual purification.
According to the sacred legend, Hemamali, the celestial gardener of Lord Kubera, was cursed by a sage and afflicted with leprosy after neglecting his duties. Following the guidance of Sage Markandeya, he faithfully observed Yogini Ekadashi and worshipped Lord Vishnu. By the Lord’s divine grace, he was freed from the curse, relieved of his illness, and restored to his former honor. Since then, Yogini Ekadashi has been regarded as an especially auspicious day for praying for relief from physical ailments, freedom from sinful karmas, and spiritual well-being.
On this sacred occasion, a special Vishnu Dwadashakshari Mantra Jaap and Ekadashi Vrat Katha will be performed at the holy Badrinath Dham in Uttarakhand. During this divine ritual, learned Vedic priests will collectively chant the sacred Dwadashakshari Mantra of Lord Vishnu—”Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya”. Devotees will also listen to the sacred Ekadashi Vrat Katha, which explains the glory of Lord Vishnu, the importance of devotion, righteousness, and the path to liberation.
It is believed that chanting Lord Vishnu’s sacred mantra and listening to the Ekadashi Vrat Katha on Yogini Ekadashi blesses devotees with relief from physical and mental suffering, spiritual merit, prosperity, and inner transformation. During this ceremony, a personalized Sankalp will be taken in the devotee’s name and gotra, and prayers will be offered to Lord Vishnu for good health, freedom from illness, family happiness, prosperity, spiritual growth, and ultimately, the blessing of Moksha.
Situated on the sacred banks of the Alaknanda River in Uttarakhand, Shri Badrinath Dham is one of the holiest shrines dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is revered as the “Vaikuntha on Earth.” It is one of the four sacred Char Dham pilgrimage sites and an important destination of the Chota Char Dham Yatra. According to Hindu belief, worshipping Lord Badri Vishal here helps remove sins, promotes spiritual progress, and grants liberation (Moksha).
Badrinath Dham is also one of the 108 Divya Desams of Lord Vishnu. Sacred sites such as the Tapt Kund, Brahma Kapal, and the Nar-Narayan Mountains further enhance the temple’s spiritual significance. For centuries, millions of devotees have visited this divine shrine seeking Lord Vishnu’s blessings, family well-being, freedom from sins, and the ultimate goal of liberation.
According to Hindu tradition, Badrinath is also revered as Moksha Dham. The sacred Brahma Kapal is considered one of the holiest places for performing ancestral rites, while bathing in the naturally warm Tapt Kund is believed to purify devotees before they enter the temple for worship.
