🙏 Why are the 15 days of Pitru Paksha considered special for ancestors?
In Sanatan tradition, a special spiritual period begins with Shukla Paksha Purnima, followed by the 15-day Pitru Paksha dedicated to remembering ancestors through Tarpan, Shraddha, and Pitru Shanti rituals. According to religious beliefs, during these 15 days, the doors of Pitru Loka open and ancestors accept the offerings made by their descendants with devotion. Therefore, this period is considered especially auspicious for seeking relief from Pitru Dosha and praying for ancestral blessings.
According to a popular story associated with the Mahabharata, when the generous Karna reached heaven after his death, he was offered gold and jewels instead of food. It was explained that although he had donated generously throughout his life, he had never offered food and water to his ancestors. He was then given an opportunity to return to Earth for 15 days, during which he performed Shraddha and Tarpan to satisfy his ancestors. Since then,
this sacred period has been observed as Pitru Paksha and is considered an auspicious time for seeking the peace, contentment, and blessings of one’s ancestors.
⚠️ How is Pitru Dosha believed to affect family life?
According to religious beliefs, when departed ancestors remain unsatisfied or the necessary Shraddha and Tarpan rituals have not been performed for them, their descendants may experience various obstacles in life. Continuous family conflicts, delays in important work, mental unrest,
financial difficulties, and problems continuing across generations are sometimes associated with ancestral dissatisfaction. Pitru Shanti rituals are considered a way to pray for the contentment of ancestors and restore peace and harmony within the family.
🌊 Why is Pitru Puja at Kashi and Pishach Mochan considered special?
Kashi is revered as the sacred city of Moksha in Sanatan tradition, while Pishach Mochan Kund is particularly renowned for rituals dedicated to ancestral peace. According to religious beliefs, performing Shraddha, Tarpan, and other Pitru rituals at this sacred place holds special significance for praying for the peace, contentment, and liberation of departed ancestors. Therefore, performing Pitru Dosha Shanti Puja in Kashi during Pitru Paksha is considered highly auspicious.
🕉️ How will the 15-Day Pitru Dosha Nivaran Mahapuja be performed?
On the first day of this special ritual, learned priests will begin the Puja by taking a Sankalp in your name and Gotra. Throughout the remaining days of Pitru Paksha, traditional Pitru Shanti rituals will be performed according to prescribed customs. On the final day, Sarva Pitru Amavasya, the rituals will conclude with the prescribed closing ceremonies and Visarjan.
Along with the 15-day Puja, Ganga Aarti will also be performed daily on the sacred banks of the Ganga in Kashi. In this way, continuous prayers will be offered throughout Pitru Paksha for the peace and contentment of your ancestors.
Kashi, revered as the City of Liberation (Moksha), is one of the most sacred pilgrimage destinations for Pitru Shanti and the attainment of liberation. It is widely believed that those who breathe their last in Kashi attain Moksha, which is why many devotees wish to spend their final days here. Pishach Mochan Kund is especially renowned for rituals performed to seek relief from Pitru Dosha.
Both the Garuda Purana and the Kashi Khanda describe the spiritual importance of this sacred site, stating that Pind Daan, Tarpan, and Pitru Dosha Nivaran rituals performed here help fulfill the unfulfilled wishes of ancestors and aid them in attaining peace and liberation. The history of Pishach Mochan Kund is believed to predate the descent of the Ganga to Earth. According to tradition, a Brahmin who had become a Pishach (restless spirit) due to his past deeds was guided by Maharishi Valmiki to worship Kapardeshwar Mahadev and bathe in this sacred kund, through which he attained liberation. Since then, the site has been revered as Pishach Mochan, the place that frees souls from suffering.
The 15-day Pitru Shanti rituals will include special prayers for relief from the adverse effects traditionally associated with Pitru Dosha.
Through Shraddha, Tarpan, and Pitru Puja, prayers will be offered for the peace, satisfaction, and spiritual well-being of departed ancestors.
Prayers will be offered for relief from long-standing family conflicts, recurring difficulties, and disturbances, while seeking the blessings of the ancestors.
The Puja will include prayers for financial stability, family harmony, prosperity, and the progress of present and future generations.
Through rituals performed throughout Pitru Paksha, devotees will pray for the grace, protection, and blessings of their ancestors.
